Lucy died peacefully in Spring Hill, Florida at the age of 87. She had suffered from the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Lucy was born February 20, 1927 in Mt. Ida, Arkansas to Charles and Ella Jackson in a cabin in the Ouachita Mountains. Her Mother died in childbirth and she was raised by her Father and siblings. She viewed her sister Flora as her mother and was heartbroken at her passing.
Lucy had a deep and profound love for nature and animals of all kinds. She loved to garden and bird watching. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Early in her marriage she made all of her children’s clothes. Later she began quilting and became an expert quilter. The passion for quilting was with her for the remainder of her life.
She met Harry Cartwright at the Rock Court motel in Mt Ida, where she worked as a cook in her teenage years. They eloped in Hot Springs and moved to Rockford, Illinois, where she lived for most of her life. They had a daughter, Penny (Cash) and a son Mike.
In retirement, she was able to realize a lifelong dream and moved into a small acreage and cabin in Mountain View, AR. She loved the gorgeous mornings and watching nature from her porch. Her time in Mountain View was among the happiest times in her life. She had wonderful neighbors and fed the deer each night.
She is survived by her two children: Mike Cartwright and Penny Cash, and her 6 grandchildren: Jeremy (Tracy) Cartwright, Beth (Joe) Litteral, Rhema (Kent) Holliston, Caleb (Tonya) Cash, Chelsea (Jon) Sinclair Meredith Cartwright, and her 7 Great Grandchildren, Ambur Litteral, Brooke Litteral, Simon Cartwright, Solvieg Cartwright, Maddux Rueff, Basil Holliston and Louella Litteral.
Harry died in their cabin home, and Lucy began to succumb to the effects of Alzheimer’s within the next year. She spent the remainder of her life under the care of her son Mike, until the last several months when she needed 24 hour care. She died peacefully in bed.
She was a kind and gentle soul that has finally come to rest. In heaven there will be a joyous noise as she meets her Mother for the first time. Her life ended on Father’s day – a day befitting for her, as she loved her Father, who tried his best to be both Father and Mother; and she will meet her heavenly Father, who will welcome her gentle spirit with open arms.

She will be missed.
